STRONGER
TOGETHER:
Local fitness studio leading the fight against
Multiple Sclerosis.
SAN
DIEGO, CA--Dec. 29, 2007--Weak muscles, unexplained
fatigue, and an inability to get out of bed in
the morning are all mysterious physical limitations
associated with Multiple Sclerosis. For many years,
lifting weights was considered taboo, and those
with MS had few options to build the muscular
strength that would help combat their various
ailment. However, the value of strength training
has since been recognized by the MS Society as
a powerful ally in the fight against MS. Since
2003, Addie’s Personal Training Studio in
San Diego has been working closely with the MS
society, developing specialized workout programs
designed for MS clients.
“For those living with MS , adding muscle
to one’s physical piggy bank can help to
maintain an active lifestyle,” says Tyler
Merrill, who owns Addie’s Studio’s
two San Diego locations along with wife Addie.
“Muscle deterioration is a common side effect
of MS but targeted weight training can yield amazing
result.”
Success Stories
Addie’s Studio client Anne Martin was the
recipient of their annual MS fitness scholarship
in 2007. She experienced a 45% gain in muscle
strength with MS targeted workouts.
A former professional rock-climber, skydiver and
lawyer, Cynthia McGrew, mother of two young children
isn’t one to sit back and let life happen.
When McGrew was diagnosed with MS in 2000 she
listened to her doctor and began a strength training
program immediately to maintain mobility.
“Since I began working out I have lost two
dress sizes and feel stronger than I did when
I was rock-climbing,” says McGrew who performs
MS targeted workouts three times a week at Addies’
University Towne Centre location.
Changing Lives
Through their revolutionary MSF.I.T.T. program,
designed by Tyler Merrill, Addie’s Studio
has worked successfully with several hundreds
afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis to increase
mobility, balance, and strength. In 2005, the
Addie’s Personal Training Studio MS fitness
program was approved by the MS Society’s
prestigious Clinical Advisory Committee, and received
a winning endorsement from neurologist Dr. Jody
Corey-Bloom, MD,PhD of UCSD “The MSF.I.T.T.
program is an exceptionally effective exercise
method for strengthening weakening muscles associated
with multiple sclerosis.” In 2007 the MS
Society recognized the years of diligent work
by Addie’s with the MS Wellness Partner
of the year award and bizSanDiego magazine highlighted
Addie’s commitment to MS clients as one
