You
could see it in her gait and in her posture.
Laura, a mother of one and a full time manager
at Qualcomm, was not the person she once
was.
Laura,
now 43, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis
nine years ago. Refusing to let the disease
get her down, she decided to hire a personal
trainer to boost her energy.
Two times per week for the past four years
Laura has completed a challenging 30 minutes
of strength training at Addie’s Studio
One on One, Inc. a specialized personal
training studio in Pacific Beach.
“The weight training helps me both
physically and psychologically,” says
Laura, who has impressed the majority of
other clients with her 300 pounds maximum
on the leg press.
“Physically strength training keeps
me strong, stable, and energetic. Psychologically
it helps me remain motivated to keep the
fight against MS as a foremost priority
in my life.”
Addie
Merrill opened Addie’s Studio One
on One, Inc. in June of 2001. Her vision
of what a private fitness facility would
be was derived from her past.
As an overweight 20-year-old she often felt
intimidated and out of place in the larger
health clubs. Realizing that other people
were in her same position, she decided to
give them an alternative choice for exercise.
“I
was tired of the large crowds of people
and the dirty equipment, so I decided to
do something about it,” Merrill said.
In addition to training athletes, moms &
dads, and corporate executives, Addie’s
Studio offers a multiple sclerosis specific
workout.
“Our MS exercise program is unique
because it addresses specific limitations
such as balance, strength, and fatigue,”
said Merrill. “Building up a surplus
of energy through strength training helps
to combat those down times.” |
