The
owners of Addie's Studio One On One, 4440
Ingraham Street, are hoping to help get
cancer victims back on their feet this
holiday season. For the first time, Addie
Merrill and her husband Tyler, co owners
of the studio, will be collecting new
or used shoes during November and December
to benefit the American Cancer Society.
Every
year the Merrill family looks for a way
to help folks in need during the holidays.
This year's shoe drive to benefit cancer
victims has a personal connection with
the owners.
"I
have a client who I've been working with
who has a bout of skin cancer," Tyler
Merrill said. "It's made this more
of a touching experience for myself."
Addie's
Studio is a specialized one-on-one training
center that focuses on helping people
with injuries. It caters to folks who
are looking for a physical trainer to
provide individualized workouts and fitness
help.
"Our
niche is people who wouldn't go into a
regular health club because it's large
and overwhelming," Tyler said.
For
each pair of shoes donated by their customers
or members of the community, Addie and
Tyler plan to purchase a pair of socks
to donate. There's been a strong response
— about 30 pairs of shoes have already
been donated in just the first week."
"It's
been great so far," Tyler said. "We
almost have a full-sized can filled up,
and it's only been out this week."
Addie's
Studio One On One will be accepting donations
until Dec. 20. Then the owners will deliver
the shoes, along with the new socks, to
the American Cancer Society's Discovery
Shop off Midway Drive. While the donated
shoes can be new or used, they should
preferably be athletic style or walking
shoes.
